BP APEX KRAFT Trueno JGTC 1999 [Ebbro 44538]

$90.00

Ebbro 1/43 scale resin version of the BP APEX KRAFT AE86 Trueno from the 1999 All Japan Grand Touring Championship...

"Team KRAFT was seen in JGTC since 1997, when they entered with an MR2 in GT300 class, but for some reason, they had decided to be a little bit more insane, and introduced a second car in the middle of the ‘97 season, a unique built: the FWD Toyota Cavalier with Bomex bodykit. This car was one of four FWD cars to ever race in all JGTC (including the modern days of SUPER GT) history.

Do you think that starting with an MR2, and then an FF sportscar was an insane thing? You don’t know what they did in 1999... or probably you know but you don’t know the story background.

One of oldest cars to ever appear in JGTC as a modern 90’s and early 2000’s racer, the AE86 was the new effort introduced by KRAFT in 1999, with direct support coming from TRD, providing all the best for the car, including the 3S-GTE 2.0L 4cyl turbo engine, the extremely modified bodywork mounted, the rear rigid suspension derived from an F3 chassis, and massive tests with Masanori Sekiya as test driver. 330ps/1050kg without weight handicap.

Exactly in 1999, the “Hachi-Roku” was driven by Minoru Tanaka and Sakaki Amemiya. That year, the car was able to finish in the top 10 several times, impressing all the rivals at the time. The best result in 1999 was a 4th place at Mine, round 4 of the season. It was the 13th ranked in the GT300 teams and ended in 19th in the drivers ranking.

The insane “ex-80’s, now 90’s” KRAFT’s project was even seen in the following season, and ended its career in 2001, when the team decided to switch for the MR-S GT300 in the middle of the season before entering in the GT500 after 2001." -@japaneseracingcars
