HKS Skyline R32 Group A 1993 [Ebbro 44159]

$85.00

Ebbro 1/43 scale version of the legendary HKS Skyline which competed in Group A Racing in 1993.

"Legendary tuning company and subsequently a racing team organization, HKS was one of the contenders in touring car racing at the Japanese Touringcar Championship during the Group A era.

HKS entered for the first time at JTC back in 1992,
under the name of “Kenji HKS Racing”, right to the JTC-1 (division 1) class which was destined to cars with over 2500cc of displacement. The team followed up the trend and entered a BNR32 Group A, with a very distinctive (and different) livery from what we know and as seen here pictured.

HKS evolved its effort throughout the 1992 JTC, with a best result of 4th place achieved at the end of the season.

They had returned to the championship in 1993, stronger than ever, with their BNR32 improved from the previous year (same chassis) and now with the iconic HKS “oil splash” in favor of the HKS’ Super Oil brand, their synthetic oil manufactured by them.
And that’s when HKS put its name on the touring car map eternally, by winning overall the 3rd race of the calendar held at Sportsland SUGO, and it went again to the podium twice respectively in 3rd and 2nd. Osamu Hagiwara and Yukihiro Hane were the drivers behind the wheel of the iconic HKS BNR32 that season.

Despite it wasn’t capable to defeat stronger names at the grid such as IMPUL, Hasemi Sport, NISMO’s de facto works team or Object T, the HKS squad showed its potential against touring car veterans. The HKS R32 was also the only GT-R R32 of the grid that the engine maintenance and tuning was entirely developed - and prepared - by HKS, while the rest of the BNR32-entered teams had REINIK in charge of their RB26DETT.

With Group A racing being shelved by FIA as touring car class worldwide after 1993, JTC organizers then immediately followed the steps of BTCC, by switching to the newly FIA Class II formula (aka Supertouring, destined to 4-door sedans with 2.0L NA engines) and renaming the championship’s name to JTCC. Of course, HKS joined the new JTCC era, with the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra A.

The 550ps, HKS-tuned camouflaged Godzilla remains here in Japan owned by them and it can be seen occasionally displayed somewhere." -@japaneseracingcars
