Based on the NC1 NSX chassis, the NSX-GT competition car debuted in 2017, replacing the previous NSX Concept-GT, which competed during the 2014-2016 seasons of Super GT. This new chassis proved to be potent heading into the 2018 year, with F1 driver Jensen Button now signed to drive alongside Naoki Yamamoto for Team Kunimitsu. It finished the season taking home the GT500 championship, the first-ever for Kunimitsu Takahashi and the first Honda works team to win since 2010. After the Raybrig car was retired after the 2019 season, it was returned to its 2018 livery to commemorate their championship season.
