Ebbro 1/43 scale Honda Accord built by Mugen under the Castrol banner for the 1996 Japanese Touring Car Championship.
It must be noted that there are TWO different Castrol Accords. This is the #33 Mugen Dome Accord driven by Ryu Michigami. The only few visual details about the two Accords that set them apart is the color of the front lip and logo placements.
The Ebbro models that first lead me down the rabbit hole of collecting these wonderful cars. There are five total Accords from JTCC that Ebbro made scale versions of which were the JACCS Accord, the two Castrol Mugen cars, the monotone PIAA Accord, and this one, prepped by Mooncraft in the '90s.
These Accords are INCREDIBLY difficult to come by. They are however, much newer than say, the NSXs or Supras from the Ebbro line-up. When found they're typically in like-new condition or never been opened-up. The beauty of these Accords becoming available so late into the company's existence is that they're also some of the most-detailed.
All 5 of the Accords are pretty rare and highly sought after.
"the JTCC machine called Accord is worthy of being called the ``strongest touring car.'' In the two seasons since it was entered in the JTCC, Honda has been able to produce the champion two years in a row with this machine. This was the result of their serious efforts to develop this car from scratch, believing that ``racing is about winning,'' after losing consecutive races in the Civic Ferio at the beginning of the series. In the words of Hattori, who drove the Accord 3X in the final race, ``You can drive normally without worrying about the fact that it's a front-wheel drive car, and you can set course records over and over again. It's just a really fast car.'' ``It's scary when Honda gets serious.'' It can be said that this Accord was the starting point for the phrase that was deeply engraved in the Japanese motorsports world, and that is similar to the later NSX-GT and HSV-010GT. The Accord was the ultimate, strongest and fastest touring car." -Honda.co.jp
