Ignition Model 1/43 scale model of the #15 PIAA Civic which competed in the 1995 season of the Japanese Touring Car Championship.
"Nakajima Racing (entered at the time as Nakajima Planning), led by veteran driver Satoru Nakajima, is another team that was active in the 80’s and 90’s touring car era in Japan. Along with Team Kunimitsu, Mooncraft and MUGEN, Nakajima joined the all-new JTCC under Supertouring (FIA Class II) regulations in 1994, with all these teams representing the Honda’s effort in the championship.
As the Supertouring replaced the Group A cars, the Civic EG6 was dropped in favor of the Civic EG9 (known as Civic Ferio in Japan), which was perfectly fitted in the Class II regs: four-door sedan with a 2.0L NA engine up to 300ps and curb weight at 975kg. Nakajima Planning’s last participation in the JTC (under Group A regs) was in 1990 with the Civic EF9. After that, they’ve dropped their touring car effort to focus on the Japanese F3000, returning only in 1994, exactly during the transition to Gr.A to Supertouring, with this car pictured.
The PIAA-sponsored Civic EG9 was driven in the 1994 JTCC by Tetsuya Tanaka. The duo struggled a lot throughout the season, facing several DNFs most of the races entered. However, Tanaka managed to finish once in 2nd place with this car at Tsukuba Circuit. That was the best result so far for the PIAA CIVIC VTEC in ‘94. Tanaka stayed with Nakajima Planning for the 1995 JTCC season, but after just three rounds, it was replaced by Takuya Kurosawa.
In 1996, as all the Honda teams in the JTCC, Nakajima squad switched to the Accord CD6, with 1995 being the final year for the Civic EG9." -@japaneseracingcars
Ignition Model cars are typically a higher price point than Ebbro stuff because it's considered more 'high-end'. Unlike a majority of the Ebbro cars, Ignition Model scale models are made out of resin and aren't considered diecasts. They're not metal at all which means they allow for more detail and are much later. They made a 1/18 scale version of this car too which looks amazing. The 1/43 scale one is incredibly detailed inside and out.
Like the N1 #73 Civic on this site, this one is also currently no longer in-production from Ignition Model.
The main difference between this particular 0415 model and the 1994 version (0420) is that the 1995 Civic had a front lip spoiler.
